Explore the shared living concept →Research & innovation
Exploring intelligent systems, assistive devices, and thermal-energy concepts through a shared commitment to human needs and careful engineering.
Research conceptsHow this serves the mission
Technology and Design connects software, accessible interfaces, devices, and physical environments. The intended outcome is a useful task made easier: finding information, understanding a control, learning a skill, or choosing when to ask another person for help. A shared design approach lets lessons from ALARIS, wearables, ETAC, and the Academy inform one another.

The problem
An idea can look convincing before its feasibility, usability, or safety is understood.
Who is affected
Researchers, future users, designers, engineers, and maintainers.
The proposed response
Design and engineering can make assumptions testable and identify practical limitations early.
The research direction centers on accessibility, elder independence, learning, and energy resilience. The first task for each concept is to define the user, the problem, and a measurable way to evaluate an improvement.
Software, product design, materials, sensing, human factors, and architecture inform one another. ALARIS, assistive wearables, and ETAC are related research directions, not a claim that an integrated product is already operating.
A proposed development path includes requirements, bench experiments, documented prototypes, user evaluation, and independent review where appropriate. Performance, readiness, and availability should be published only when supporting evidence exists.
